Anyone been to Governor website lately?
Governor’s plan includes extending the school year, merit pay for teachers, mandatory after school tutoring, taking over failing school districts, school construction, parental involvement initiatives, textbook replacement, full day kindergarten, new school technology, and new accountability measures; Plan would provide $6 billion in new funding for schools over next four budgets

Today, we have a valuable asset that could be used to do far more for education. And we have schools that need more funding. Under this proposal, the Illinois Lottery would either enter into a long-term lease with a private entity or conduct an Initial Public Offering that would generate approximately $10 billion in proceeds.

That money would go directly and only to schools, fulfilling the promise originally made to the people more than thirty years ago. Specifically, the lease would provide $4 billion towards a new $6 billion funding plan for schools over the next four years and guarantee a $650 millio
annuity to the Common School Fund until Fiscal Year 2025

I thought our lottery money was suppose to be for the schools and roads.

1. steam coming out of my ears.
i have been pretty much of a blago supporter, but this one is pissing me off. this is such bullshit. why don't you just dedicate the lottery proceeds to education, only really this time.
the lottery was sold in the first place with a promise to put the money into the schools. instead, they directed the money into the general revenue, then reduced other monies to the schools. a shell game.
so, now blago wants to play another shell game, but this time he wants to funnel it through some cronies hands? bullshit, there rod, bullshit. just fucking fund the schools.
the worst part about this is that it is nothing but a bone thrown to meeks to keep him out of the race.
you want money for schools, rod, go through the contracts let under ryan, and cut the corrupt crap that you know is there. i have a lot of sympathy for the fact that once again a dem has his hands tied by the debts of a generation of corrupt thugs. but i do not recall a single instance of blago undoing any of that shit. you want to be a reformer, rod, get out your red pencil.

4. Dem booth
2 people. Somebody asked for a Blagojevich bumper-sticker when you weren't there. I work every Saturday. He also got the loudly voiced support of Brad the security man, Mark the bus driver (sorry, I didn't get their last names) and two elderly ladies who said the pension mess wasn't his fault and anyway it paled beyond the issue of the birth-control pills, Joe Burkitt, and the minimum wage (I'm just repeating what they said). One guy said the thought of Joe Burkitt was the only thing that would make him vote for the Governor.

3. This is a short term fix.
As long as we continue to fund education as we currently do by property taxes then we will always have inexcusable inequalities between school districts that amounts to modern day segregation.
