Fundraiser brings in $800,000
October 23, 2006 - On Monday, former U.S. President Bill Clinton campaigned in Chicago for Tammy Duckworth and Melissa Bean, two Democrats running for Congress.
The event, which was held at a downtown hotel, raised $800,000 during a private fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and individual campaigns of Melissa Bean and Tammy Duckworth. Earlier this month, President Bush came to Illinois for a fundraiser to help their GOP opponents, David McSweeney and Peter Roskam.
On Monday, the star of the show was former President Clinton, who -- six years ago -- was more or less dis-invited from a high-profile role in the presidential campaign. Two years ago, his by-pass surgery limited his appearances, but in this mid-term race, the Democrats are eager for his star power.
