The campaign of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has reserved the Old State Capitol State Historic Site for use on Feb. 10 - the day Obama will be in Springfield to announce his plans concerning a run for the presidency.
Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s office made the reservation after being asked to do so by the Obama campaign, Blagojevich spokeswoman Rebecca Rausch said Tuesday.
The Old State Capitol in downtown Springfield is now a museum, but still provides a meeting place for some government functions - including recent meetings of the Illinois House while that body’s Statehouse chamber has been undergoing remodeling.
In 1858, Abraham Lincoln delivered his “House Divided” speech at what was then the state capitol.
