| Lisa Madigan for President in 2016? |
|
A few days ago I posted a thread in GD asking who would be the first woman president. Obviously, Hillary Clinton was the most likely candidate, but if not her, then who?
I suggested a few names that have been bandied about as rising stars, both in the Democratic and Republican parties. For the Democrats, I suggested, if not Hillary Clinton, then Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas (likely first as Veep then a presidential campaign 8 years down the road), along with new Rep. Kirsten Gilibrand of NY (one she's gotten into statewide office) and, Lisa Madigan, given that she's young, likely to run for governor in 2010 (or be appointed senator should Obama win the presidency) and from a large, Mid-Western state.
I admit I don't know much about her other than her being considered a "rising star." If that's true, if she's elected, and if she does a good job, I could easily see her as a Democratic presidential nominee, just based on her profile. Could Illinois have back-to-back presidencies: Barack Obama (2009-2017) and Lisa Madigan (2017-2021/2025)?
So how is she? Is this a realistic prospect or unlikely? Is she unappealing?

| 1. if you still believe in chicago kingmakers, she might be |
|
her daddy is one of the most powerful cogs in the chicago political machine. if she decided she wanted it, she could sure take a good run. she has a lot of support of her own, so she could look independent. i would sure rather have her than hillary. who i would really like to see run would be kristen breitweiser.

| 2. She did very well here in 2006 |
|
I think she got almost 75% of the vote against a not-so-great but not so "out there" challenger. I'm assuming she'll run for governor in 2010 if Blagojevich decides against a third term.

| 3. The governor's mansion is hers for the taking. |

I personally wish she would have taken out Blago in the primary.
Assuming she is our next governor, I don't think a presidential run down the road is out the question at all.
