Illinois has a great historical resource in the
Chicago Metro History Education Center! Each year nearly 20,000 students in grades 6-12 embark on a research journey through Chicago history called the Chicago Metro History Fair. You know how we complain about the NCLB leaving behind many? Well, the CMHEC hasn't left behind students or teachers. They offer unique training sessions for teachers statewide and the students in Illinois get to enjoy one of the most extraordinary history lessons nationwide.
They are having a Hike for History 2007 to help raise funds for the CMHEC.
The Hike for History brings together History Fair students, alumni, teachers, parents, judges, and community members who want to support the Chicago Metro History Fair, discover Chicago history, and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the History Fair. Walkers will have an opportunity to tour historical interest points in Chicago’s Little Italy and University Village neighborhoods and raise funds to make the History Fair possible. At approximately 5k (3 miles) in distance, the Hike is manageable for all!
Why not participate? It's a great way to help your community and to have some special time with your own kids.
Check it out! (I do not represent the CMHEC and they are not involved in my decision to post this message here. I think it's a great event to share. If this is not ok to post this here, then mods, please remove this post. Thanks!~~ Ray of Light)
