The Civil Unions bill is scheduled to be voted on in committee tomorrow. |

The state House of Representatives Committee on Youth and Family will be voting tomorrow (Thursday) whether to move the civil unions bill out of committee and on to a full house vote.
Members of the committe are:
Chairperson : Greg Harris D
Vice-Chairperson : LaShawn K. Ford D
Republican Spokesperson : Mike Fortner R
Member: William D. Burns D Member: Michael P. McAuliffe R Member: Al Riley D Member: Dave Winters R
If any of these are your Reps, please call them and ask that this be moved out of committee. If it should be voted onto the floor, call your reps and ask them to support it. Thanks!

Will do. I prefer civil marriage on this issue too, but this is a necessary first step...hopefully, not the last.

with the word marriage crossed out and replaced with "civil unions." It gives whatever rights a state level marriage bill can give.

but Harris didn't think it would get far using that language, so they re-wrote it as a civil unions bill. My enthusiasm began when it was a marriage bill. I still think is a good thing. I actually think that people may see that civil unions aren't so scary, and be more willing to support marriage equality in time. Either that, or I'm rationalizing.
