and quigley has a very, very deep reservoir of good will with the real progressives. northside dfa, in spite of not officially endorsing him, had the support and shoe leather of most of the group. they helped him get on the county board, and he has been very generous with his time, coming to meetings whenever he was asked to talk about cook county issues.

afa labor issues, remember that he is a cook county commissioner. he overseas the contracts of several unions. powerful, and often intractable unions. but iirc, seiu was behind him, which is the largest (?) of those unions.

he is most assuredly not a blue dog. i have no idea what makes you think that.

For the record, I wasn't actually saying he WAS a Blue Dog, just expressing concern that he could be. If not, I'm glad.

When you say he has a reservoir of good will with the "real progressives", who are you saying is a "real progressive" and who isn't, out of curiousity? I'm not sure what exactly you meant by that.

I'd like nothing better for the guy to work out. I'm just trying to get a handle on what put him over the top, since he wasn't as nationally known as some of the others.

northside dfa is an awesome organization, whose effort could easily put someone over the top. and this election was sort of with one hand tied behind their back, because many members worked for geoghan, and for feigenholz.
i am a member of the steering committee of my ward dem party. we are the loonie end of the party. (my alderman is the guy who wrote the low to ban foi gras in chicago. since repealed) we thought very highly of both tom and mike. sara, too.
it was pretty much a no loose election for us.

13. Geoghegan may have been known online

as the trendy netroots candidate but he was never more than an obscure also-ran inside the district. Quigley was the most progressive guy with a chance at winning and I'm glad people outside the district didn't fuck up this race by helping Geoghegan become a spoiler. This really was a case of bloggers outside the district nearly fucking things up by sticking their nose into a race they knew nothing about. If Geoghegan had gotten a few more points we could have ended up with another machine Democrat in this seat.
