Hines Veterans Hospital has encountered a crisis. We no longer have an on-site field service officer to serve as liaison between the Hospital and the Regional Office. This loss is a serious impediment to veterans seeking help and information for benefits regarding home loans, college tuition, service-connected disability, V.A. pension, and survivor benefits, as well as awarding benefits which can change their primary eligibility for health care. For example, a veteran may be awarded a benefit which entitles him/her to free health care in the system.

Many veterans are not aware of the connection between these two departments of the V.A. It is critical to have a representative of the Regional Office on this campus to facilitate this necessary connection. This liaison has been callously severed by the Regional Office with no notice of a pending replacement.

Please contact the Chicago Regional Office at 1-800-827-1000 to request the reinstatement of a field service officer at the Hines facility. Please phone/write/fax your congressman to contact the director of the Chicago Regional Office to replace the field service officer.
