Daniels shelves Carmel home
Daniels shelves Carmel home

No 'For Sale' sign will be placed on governor's residence, either, he tells media

By Mary Beth Schneider
February 12, 2005

The groundbreaking for Gov. Mitch Daniels' Hamilton County dream home will have to wait.

"The whole thing's sort of on hold," Daniels said Friday.

In the meantime, the governor said, he and first lady Cheri Daniels will continue to live in their Geist home, though he plans to spend at least some nights in the state-owned official governor's residence on Meridian Street.

<snip>

Then came the revelation that something else might tie him to Marion County -- the Indiana Constitution, which states: "The Governor shall reside at the seat of government."

1. You think that will stop him?
He will probably be register to vote there.
He will probably have his mail sent there.
He will probably have his address on the drivers license.

2. one would think
that someone who spent the past 2 years running for governor would take a little time to read the Indiana Constitution. You know, just to see what the rules are?

sigh.

6. isn't there a rule on these boards
about bringing stuff from one thread to another?

Anyway, despite your cattiness I will respond to your post...

I still do not think it matters where the gov lives. But I do find it humorous that a man who spent 2 years running for gov never took the time to read the state constitution.

Does the fact that I have a sense of humor bother you that much?

3. What's interesting about the Gov's residence
He's clearly hiding behind the renovations as a reason to stay out. I found another article on it (don't have the link, sorry) that quoted the person in charge of the most recent addition to the home. She claims that the house is far from unliveable. There's got to be some other reason that he doesn't want to live in the middle of Indianapolis. Is he upset that so few of the resident's there actually voted for him?

8. That could be it.
I'd bet he actually is that petty. Remember what he said about the people who refused to give there resignations? "Well, they'd better think about what they did when it's time to re-appoint them..." or words to that effect. Proabably doesn't want to live so close to where Bart Peterson works, either.

Spoiled little Rich Boy. He didn't fool me, I knew that RV and "Just call me 'Mitch'..." schtick was all eyewash...

5. For some reason, this just confirms for me ...
that he doesn't want to be Indiana's Govenor at all. He's just there to do the bidding of the Bushies. He didn't even consider the fact that he was going to actually (gasp) change some things about his life.

7. I really don't care where he lives
If he lives in Carmel, it's much further from me than if he were to live in the governor's mansion. That's good.

It'd be nice if he sold the house and gave the proceeds to the Child Protection Services or one of those other agencies that needs dough.
