Logistics for tomorrow's protest continue to be "challenging," at best.
With the large numbers of people attending Black Expo early and a gezillion
squads of law enforcement out, we need to leave home earlier than normal to
find parking. We won't really know exactly at WHAT POINT we're going to be
able to assemble until the last minute. Protestors are asked to meet at 9:00
a.m. at the corner of Capital Ave and Washington Street. If this area is
blocked off, as it well may be, the alternative assembly point is near the
Greyhound Bus station on the corner of South and Illinois.
If by chance BOTH of of our original protest assembly locations are cordoned
off, please come to the sidewalk around the Circle or to the corner of Ohio
and N. Meridian as early as possible and we will reorganize there. The
SEIU's Rolling Fast is being held on the north side of the Circle and we
don't want to cause them any problems, so look for other protesters around
the outer sidewalk of the Circle OR come to the corner of Ohio and North
Meridian.
We advise arriving EARLY and parking at pay lots on Alabama across from the
Court House. For those who have problems walking, ask someone to drop you
off at the assembly point, then have them park their car. Use city buses,
but be advised that anyone with protest "gear" (anti-war or anti-Bush
signs/banners) MAY have it confiscated. If anyone has a van and could
shuttle people from Alabama to the protest assembly area, that would be
great!
If you intend to meet up with other protesters downtown and cannot find
them, please call my cell phone -- (REDACTED) -- and we will try to give
directions or updates to anyone who's "lost." Also, please call that same #
if you run into any problems or see anyone detained or arrested for
attempting to protest or assemble. Write the cell phone # on something that
you will have with you, even if it's in marker on your arm or leg. ;) May
sound funny, but not kidding.
If walking with a group, just remember that it's completely LEGAL to do so
as long as you're not blocking a public passageway and are obeying all
traffic signs or police officers who may be directing traffic (auto and
foot). Carrying signs is LEGAL and singing, chanting, drumming, etc, also
is legal. Indianapolis has an "amplified sound ordinance," which makes the
use of electronic bullhorns ILLEGAL without a permit. They MAY be
confiscated if they are being used.
Let's get together as early as possible, bring signs and banners,
noisemakers, whistles, drums -- and raingear as it is expected to be
raining!!
