Announcing the Debs Foundation's 2005 Award Banquet
The 2005 banquet will be October 29, in Terre Haute, with two main features. One will be the award dinner honoring Thomas Frank, who has done research and written on the culture wars in American society. He is editor of Baffler Magazine, but is best known for writing What's the Matter With Kansas. The banquet's keynote or presentation speaker will be Cecil Roberts, United Mine Workers President. Anne Feeney will entertain with her songs of labor and protest.

Another feature will be the afternoon unveiling of a plaque honoring Big Bill Haywood, who with Debs and Mother Jones founded the Industrial Workers of the World exactly 100 years ago, in 1905. Haywood also was secretary-treasurer of the Western Federation of Miners from 1901 to 1906 and editor of Miner's Magazine. The unveiling will be open to the public, at 3:30 p.m., at the Debs Home, 451 N. 8th St.
