Article: Bauer says GOP is attacking the messenger |
|
This article was on the front page of the South Bend Tribune today. State Rep Patrick Bauer claims that the GOP are attacking him. I quoted a couple of paragraphs which I thought were pretty interesting. Link to full article at the bottom. Basically, Faulkner, a Repup, is claiming that Bauer and three other legislators who work for Ivy Tech conducted an interview while they were supposed to be working at Ivy Tech. Bauer says he took a vacation day for the interview. I believe him. What I find interesting is the sort of attack that's going on. Very Rovey, as Bauer himself says! :) _________________
November 23, 2005 Bauer: GOP Attacking the Messenger Lawmaker reacts to request for records on his job at Ivy Tech.
James Wensits Tribune Political Writer
SOUTH BEND -- State Rep. B. Patrick Bauer suggested Tuesday that a Republican attack on his Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana employment is partisan -- but not original.
Bauer, D-South Bend, said his recent comments on key state issues are hurting Republicans, "so they want to personally hurt the messenger."

"That's baloney," responded Bauer, who characterized Faulkner's tactics as being from the "Karl Rove and Tom DeLay school of stab-you-in-the-back politics."
Bauer said Faulkner is upset because Bauer has questioned the governor's role in the time zone issue as well as the governor's proposal to investigate the sale or lease of the Indiana Toll Road.

Bauer defended the state's "citizen legislature" in which insurance agents, teachers and lawyers also serve in the General Assembly and pass laws.
"If they don't like us," Bauer said of GOP opponents, "they go after us on our nonlegislative jobs.
