http://www.wishtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=4446675House Approves Two Abortion BillsThe Indiana House has approved a bill that would require abortion clinics in the state to meet new building standards.
The bill passed with a 60-38 vote and now moves to the Senate.
Planned Parenthood says the bill would force the state's nine clinics to shut down and that the group will go to court if it becomes law.
The bill would require existing clinics to meet specific regulations regarding washrooms and procedure rooms and having a staffed waiting room.
The bill's author, Representative Marlin Stutzman, says the measure is aimed at protecting women's heath.
Opponents are worried passing the bill could result in a lawsuit that would prevent the state from passing health and safety regulations for clinics in the future.
The House also passed a bill that would require women seeking abortions to be told in writing that
life begins at conception. That bill passed with a 70-30 vote and is now heading to the Senate.
The bill would require women seeking abortions to be told that a fetus might feel pain and could be given painkilling medication during the procedure if the fetus is past 20 weeks, even though there is no medical or scientific consensus on when life begins. Opponents also say no scientific evidence was presented when the bill was considered in committee.
ARGH. Just ... fucking ... ARGH!
