So what can you all tell me about SE Indiana? |
|
I grew up in Illinois, spend about 2 yrs in Florida, from there went to California for 16ish years, and we moved to my husband's hometown 4 months ago. Anyway, I'm obviously new to the area, so was curious...

No, seriously...whereabouts in SE Indiana? I grew up in S. Central Indiana but my knowledge base only goes as far east as Washington/Scott County area.

3. I've never been there... |
|
so I guess I can't be much help.
Here's what I do know about small towns in southern Indiana (central and western specifically)--most people are nice, simple folks. Simple, not simple-minded. They're usually better read than most of us educated liberals tend to think they would be, and they're not easily fooled (or not fooled for very long).
That being said, there is usually a small but powerful minority in each town that "plays nice" instead of actually being nice. They pass themselves off as "good Christians" and then proceed to dick over anybody they need to get whatever it is they want.
If you can steer clear of the pit vipers, living in a small town in Indiana can actually be a very nice existance. These small communities usually embody the best of old fashioned neighborliness, the crime rates are LOW and these are normally great places to raise small children.
I hope you enjoy your new home!

I lived there for 2 and a half years It's about as nice of a really small town as one can find in Indiana. The population is fairly well-educated, professional, etc. The only problem is there is a bit of that small town German heritage clannishness (not nearly as bad as Jasper). Also, the area leans right and votes Republican. If you go South in the same county, it's amazing how the people and accents change.
