I'm going to have to sell a major organ just to get back & forth to work soon.
Why is gas cheaper in Indy than Bloomington? (At least it has been the last several times I was there.)

1. Thanks for the warning. |

I am driving back and forth over the weekend - will check out the prices in Indy before I do the trip to decide when/where to fill up. I can not remember a time of such big, and volatile (up down up down) and frequent swings in gas prices as we have seen of late.

AND, as I recall, there used to be a little more variation in the price of gas from station to station. These days, I might find a place where the price is a penny less, but for the most part there is no price variation around here. They all raise (or lower) the price to the same level at pretty much the same time.
I did get gas at $2.65 yesterday, but noticed that all the stations west of B-town (Ellettsville) raised the price to $2.75. The prices in Elletttsville also USED to be lower than in Bloomington, but not anymore.

for Memorial Day weekend this year. Unfortunately, we have to travel that weekend for a wedding. :eyes: Why do people plan their weddings during holiday weekends?
Anyway, with gas this high already, it's going to get bloody this summer.

Maybe gas has always been that way too, but I hadn't noticed until the last few months.

11. How do all the stations state wide raise their price at the same time |
|
Of course there is a well coordinated effort by the oil comapnies but how do they do it? Spring Break means more profit for the oil comapnies

14. With most of these stations, which are franchises, |

the DISTRIBUTORS determine the price. We are in a constant battle with our distributor where I work to keep our prices down. They had us go up to 2.76 when everyone else was at 2.56. When that happens, my boss has to go and get the prices from all the other local stations, call them, and get permission to lower it back to a more reasonable level.

In other industries that is called "price-fixing" and the Department of Justice tends to frown on it.

17. Prices, for the first time in my recent memory, have ranged wildly in Indy |
|
Been watching closely since Monday. Have seen 2.53 (37 and 465; Keystone and about 52nd), to 2.69 (37 and Southport, Raymond and Meridian) and variations in between -and the numbers seem to have held steady for the past several days. I can not recall such HUGE variations - holding more than a day. For the longest time gas prices have seemed to rise and fall in near complete unison - but something has broken apart in the last week. very, very odd.

Filled up this morning for $2.59.
I was afraid, after reading that oil had closed over $67 that they would shoot up - so far, they haven't changed.
