From an e-mail alert:
Ms. Evers-Williams is the widow of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers. She is also the sole remaining survivor of "big three" widows, the triumvirate that included the late Coretta Scott King and the late Dr. Betty Shabazz (widow of El Hajj El Malik El Shabazz, or Malcolm X). Ms. Evers-Williams has also had an accomplished career in her own right. For example, she is the first woman to chair the NAACP.
Ms. Evers-Williams will be speaking at the Madame Walker Theatre Center at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2006. She will also sign the books Watch Me Fly and The Civil Rights Movement.
The event is free and open to the public.
