Poll question: Okay Hoosiers, which Democrat will you support for President in 2008?
The purpose of this poll is to determine who wants to support whom. It is almost that time in which we must get together on Meetups and what have you, to start organizing for our preferred candidate. It is not too early to do this! At this time in 2002, some of us were already looking at people like an unknown Vermont governor that was speaking against the rush to war in Iraq.

Which Democrat will you support and work to get him/her win the Democratic primaries in 2008? Let's assume they are all running.

1. Clark
With Obama as VP, I think it's a fresh combo that could really work.

3. I realize that Clark has yet to announce, but have you given any thought
to connecting with other Clarkies in Indiana and get moving on things such as getting ready for the primary, Meetups, etc?

I am waiting to see what Gore and Obama decide to do.

I am solidly in the Anybody But Hillary camp, but I have already told my fellow Hoosier DUers at a DU Meetup how I was going to vote if Hillary became the nominee and why. I can only explain my rationale over beer and good food.

:-)

7. Are you voting "Leon Trotsky" in '08, IN Green?
I seem to remember something about you being a fan (ha ha)
As you know, I am a Dennis K. fan - too liberal to win and too smart to be president!
It would be nice to have someone with an I.Q. above 20 in the White House these days...
A Gore/Dennis K. ticket would be sweet!

8. We need a political party that will represent the interests of the working class
and there are people working very hard at achieving precisely that.

On the other hand, I side with the likes of Sam Webb who argues that we also need to work within the 2-party structure to defeat the ultra-rightwing. In practical terms, that means supporting the most progressive Democratic candidate.

9. Curious about Sam Webb..
Can you point me to a web site where I can learn more about him?
Thanks, Indiana Green!

Have a great New Year to all the Indiana DUers - and the lurkers (hey - we know you're there - why not speak up?)!

15. Sam Webb has stirred a hornet's nest with his views
which some have labeled as Marxist revisionism.

Here is the link to an article attacking Webb:

For those who think the CPUSA is hopelessly attached to the Dems, this current internal debate is published.

http://colorado.indymedia.org/newswire/display/11003/index.php

Here is Webb's article in question:

http://www.pww.org/article/articleview/6936/1/264

Here is a list from PWW showing all of Webb's articles:

Here are additional links:

http://www.politicalaffairs.net

Political Affairs publishes a magazine to which I subscribe. It has excellent articles from a Marxist perspective.

PWW is the party's weekly rag.

4. Clark
Clark could carry a lot of votes in Indiana and help the rest of the ticket.

As to anybody but Hillary, yep, I'm on that bus also, she'd be the worst possible candidate in Indiana.

Y'a gott'a give Bayh a bump for getting in and out as quickly as he did, emphasis on OUT.

The thing is that I think the next election is going to be driven by events in Iraq, Iran, and Washington. I'm beginning to think the next election will be an afterthought, it's going to be decided well before then.

5. Clark would do respectably in Indiana, while Hillary would drag the slate down
That's my biggest fear about Hillary as the nominee, she will drag all local Democrats down.

6. The primaries will be over by then
Indiana needs to move them up so our votes actually mean something.

That said, Obama, Clark, rotting cabbage, broken tricycle, anyone but Hillary.

10. If we're assuming that Gore will run, then he's my guy.
But I don't think he will.

I could go for Clark, Edwards, or Obama.

13. It wouldn't let me vote
Edited on Mon Jan-01-07 05:20 AM by Dean Martin
The poll would not let me vote. I just recently joined DU, after this poll was created, and it said only members who were members when the poll was created can vote. Here's exactly the message I got:

You cannot vote

Sorry, only users who were already registered before the poll was started may vote.

20. If Gore were to run, Hillary will crap her pants
and it would throw the nomination wide open. I don't think he will, though, and that's a shame for Gore is the best qualified at this particular point in time in our history.

21. While I lukewarmly supported Gore in 2000 - my wish for him to run
has taken on a passion sincwe about 2002 - when he reemerged from private life. He has always had the intelligence and eye/ear/mind for policy - but he used to play "cautious" per the (inneffectual and oft misleading) "dc dem strategist" views/stands. I think that the experiance of the campaign - followed by his observing the actions of the admin after 911 - and knowing really understanding the exec branch - completely untethered him from his old cautious ways. I don't think he will run (per his own statements) but dang - I *wish* that he would.

Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 01:45 AM by Dean Martin
I like him more and more for that alone. If he were to throw his hat into the ring again, it would be a very tough call.
