Indy GOP (finally) fields Mayoral candidate
Oh, and did they pick a loon. Meet Bob Parker, candidate for Indianapolis Mayor and one very angry man. Here's what the Star's blogger, Matt Tulley, had to say. Check out Bobh's money quote below:

"Marion County Republican Party Chairman Tom John says Indianapolis businessman Bob Parker has decided to run for mayor -- ending the GOP's long search for a candidate. "The way things have shaken out, Bob Parker is going to be the Republican candidate for mayor later today, and will become the slated candidate sometime in the next few weeks," John said by phone.
-snip-

As you probably know, Republicans have searched for months for a candidate to challenge Democratic incumbent Bart Peterson. The list of people who turned down the chance to run is a long one. That brings us to Parker, a Center Township resident who ran for the GOP nomination in 2003. He is a man with plenty of cash to spend on his own campaign. That's what makes him attractive to Republicans. Republicans, though, also know Parker has a famous temper and a tendency to say what he is thinking. Many predict his campaign will be filled with controversy.

A sign of what to expect came when I talked to Parker a few weeks ago. During a roughly 15-minute interview, I asked about his interest in the mayor's race. During his answer, for no reason that was clear, he drifted.

"I personally see Israel going into Iran and Syria in the next couple of months," he said. "I'm sure you realize -- well, most people don't -- millionaire Democrats outnumber millionaire Republicans about four to one. It's mainly because of the wealthy Jewish faction inside the Democratic Party. Most Jewish people are Democrats and they bring that wealth. My opinion is, if Israel would go into Iran, Democrats will follow that cause. I really do believe that."

Umm, OK, Bob. But as a candidate for mayor, perhaps you should focus on a plan to fill all those potholes."

**************

Wow, I'm a Democrat, but I was not aware that I was Jewish until Bob told me so. And just where can I find these "Millionaire Democrats," Bob? We could use a few of them supporting our upcoming campaign.

I always wondered what happened with all those crazy people when they shut down Central State Hospital; now we know - they migrated to the Marion County GOP! Can't wait for the TV debates, Bart v. Bob. Get out the popcorn and lawn chairs and get ready to see the sparks fly. My prediction: this guy will implode all by himself before May 1 - unless the GOP can find a big enough muzzle! Look out - loose cannon!

1. UPDATE: Parker NEVER filed to run today!
What about Bob?
The noon deadline to file came and went, and apparently Bob never filed to run, despite being the choice of the Marion County GOP!

So here's who that leaves us with; the following folks are running for Indy Mayor:
Republicans: Darrell Morris, Greg Ballard, James Black, David Moscrip, Michael Simpson and Lawrence "Larry" Shouse.
Running against Mayor Peterson is Democratic candidate Charles Knight.

Anybody know anything about these guys?

Too bad about Bob - he would have made a great big target...

2. Don't know a damn thing about any of them but then I don't live in Indy
What is good about this though... is that the GOP is stuck with whoever wins the primary. They can't appoint someone to fill the spot like they could if no one filed by the deadline.
