I hearby swear that I, as an Iowan male obviously obsessed more with football than the democratic process, will delay my football watching and additional beer drinkin until AFTER we, as Iowans, impose our will on the rest of our nation's Democrats.

As for me I enjoy college football, but I hate the commercials. I hate the commercials so much that I usually end up turning it off. So it is no big deal. Now if Iowa were involved it might be a different story.
edit to add - what should be a two hour game now lasts upwards of 4 hours now thanks to the above mentioned commercials. So whatever game it is will still be on by the time we meet, caucus and go home. Heck, the second half will probably just be starting.

The caucus results are going to be more interesting than any stinkin game anyway!

that the whole concept behind advertising was to keep the ticket and concession prices down for the attendees of the game (and the costs of production down for the teevee station) and yet, it costs more now to go to a game than ever AND to eat or drink there. :eyes:

I know they get a scholarship, but for the money they generate they deserve more.
My mind is going off on a 'skewed priorities' jag right now. Ferentz get what? @$2,000,000 per year and a teacher gets @$25,000 and has to pay their own insurance. I like Ferentz, but jesus, that is so out of line. Not blaming Ferentz - if someone wanted to pay me $2 mill I wouldn't stop them.

remember, though (and this doesn't make it right but it is reality), that Ferentz and the team bring revenue into the school, a teacher doesn't (unless you count that teacher's wealthy alumni that give back much later down the road). So comparing the two doesn't work when it comes to $$$ in/out.

I didn't even realize he made that much. And that was from last year. Here is something from the QC Times from about a year ago:
IOWA CITY — Kirk Ferentz didn’t ask to be the poster boy for a national newspaper article that highlighted the escalating salaries of college football coaches.

But the Iowa football coach makes no apologies after he was included in a story that was headlined “Million-dollar coaches move into mainstream” last week.

The article profiled the rising salaries and incentives being paid to the game’s top coaches. A sidebar detailed the guaranteed compensation and incentive bonuses that Ferentz receives as part of a restructured contract the university administration announced it had signed with its eighth-year coach in June.

The contract guarantees Ferentz $4.64 million during a

13-month period, ending June 30, 2007.

Ferentz has a base salary of $1.44 million, recurring supplemental payouts totaling $1.4 million, a $400,000 longevity bonus and a one-time payout of $1.4 million.

And to think that when I was a kid we used to say that those that can't do anything could at least coach football. I am not trying to pick on Ferentz. I really like him as a coach. I just never realized that things were so skewed.
True, he gets paid by ticket sales but holy cow! Someone made the comment about prices for tickets going up while the # of commercials increases dramatically.

I can see a lot of people who won't take time to caucus because they will be watching the game. It will hurt Obama and help Hillary.

Maybe aside from the fact that it seems that younger voters are more willing to go Obama and older ones Hillary. But if there's a storm, that would negate any Hillary advantage.

to watch the Orange Bowl. If someone chooses the game over the caucuses, they were looking for an excuse to not go anyway.
