What a turnout for the Cedar county fundraiser! |
|
Wooooeeeeeee! In years past they had a hard time getting a tableful, last night a roomful plus standing! Not sure why. Maybe the talent lineup (Daschle, Rob Tully, Jeff Danielson, Joe Seng) or maybe people are so mad that finally even in the more red areas the Repubs are finally toast, total toast. Pies were going for $50 and more. I was planning on being generous and maybe bidding one up to $20. Man I just got run over. Great, heartfelt speeches. We have great candidates and it is truly hard to pick only one from this group. I think the best speech was not by a pro, but by the Richardson staffer who simply described what led him to be a Richardson supporter. Hats off to Cedar County chair Linda Carillo who seems to be cultivating something where no one thought much could grow!

1. Great to hear rurallib! We attended the Chickasaw Co. event last night |
|
and the room was FULL! Senator Clinton had Maryland's Lt. Governor there to speak on her behalf and he was impressive. Here's some info on him: http://www.martinomalley.com/aboutBrown/

8. My most sincere apologies to New Hampton |

Is New Hampton the home of the Krause family of Kum'N'Go fame? Another fine Iowa family.

13. That I don't know. But Butler county is also home to big-time loser Bill Dix! |
|
You remember him? The republican who wanted to represent all 11 counties of Iowa First Congressional District (I wonder which of the 12 counties that make up the first he wasn't going to represent?!)

Cedar Co. is so red, except for West Branch, that Dems have had to struggle to have their voices heard. I went to the caucus in 2000, and there were only about 8 or 9 people there. Had it in someone's living room. It will be interesting to see what the turnout will be on Jan. 3. I'm leaning towards Edwards. Hillary seems too tight with corporations, and I'm angry about her vote on Iran (to say nothing of the original Iraq vote). Anyone else is a better choice, I think, although I'll support whomever is nominated in the end.

|
I couldn't make it, I had to work but I sure would have liked to have been there.

7. I could hardly find a place to sit . . . |

Alice Lopez, our Treasurer told me on Sunday that we raised $2,300.00! The most ever for Cedar County!
I had to leave early to go to my daughter's fall play (North Cedar HS did "Godspell.") It was a great night to be a Cedar County Dem!
The whole Muscatine gang, including Mr. and Mrs. Rullib were there!
Go Dems in 2008!

9. It was a really nice event |
|
I did a write-up today on Nate Reichert's and Dave Loebsack's comments at the event. I'm going to listen to my recording of Daschle to see if there is something I need to pull -- actually, I'll feel a little guilty if I pull his comments, seeing that because of my crazy, impatient children we had to leave early and I missed the other surrogates.
BTW, I'm still ticked that I didn't win that cherry cheesecake...

It's always good to come away from an event feeling like the party is organize, mobilized, and ready to roll!
