Gleanings from a Grassley appearance |
|
I went to a Grassley event last night in Tipton at the behest of the local healthcare voter rep. It is Mrs. Lib's hometown, but boy did we feel unwelcome wearing our healthcare shirts. A couple friends from the U of Iowa anti-war group made it a little more comfortable. David Goodner was one of the anti-war folks. He is a good, young man. So glad to see at least some are carrying on with the anti-war spirit at U of I. Anyway some thoughts from Grassley or the audience that were simply amazing: - Grassley: We have proof that Saddam Hussein was part of the network of terrorists ( he almost said Al-qieda but stopped short.
- statement from the crowd: I don't want national health care. Why should my money pay for people that practice bad habits? (Oh how I wanted to shout "you already do you idiot") - after a statement about the debt to the Chinese (which Grassley brushed off as 'insignificant') the questioner stated 'something has to be done about the difference in wages between the US and China.' And then he said (i kid you not) 'we need to bring the US wages more in line with the Chinese.' - Old lady next to me started going on and on about 'illegals' and how much we spend on them. We had our mentee with us, a young man of Mexican lineage. I asked him afterwards if that made him mad. He said not anymore, he hears it so much.
- Man from up north gave a great presentation on various types of bio-fuels and how they could help ease the energy situation, but in some cases government help to kick things off would really help. Grassley's response was 'the market place will decide when and whether these are good ideas.'
Grassley himself sounds like a walking, talking right wing talking point regurgitator.
After this election we need to put up a firechuckgrassley.com website.

speech on the oppressed Chinese, how we could maybe help raise their standard of living. He started by saying the huge difference in wages should be looked at. He then too a short break. I was totally caught off guard by what followed. The way he stated it was 'some people get $25 an hour. Their wages need to come down and get more in line with what the Chinese make. Then we can start making stuff over here again.' edit to add - I expected Chuckles to discredit that or at least make some statement against it, but he said nothing. Nothing. He let it lay there and then asked for another question.

4. Isn't it funny how "the magic of the marketplace" is given free rein to weed out the little guy, but |
|
big government handouts to big corporations are just good business practice (Archer Daniels Midland, Bear-Stearns, Silverado, etc.)

7. Vilsack would be a far better Senator than Grassley |
|
I know I know, lots of folks in here just don't care for Vilsack, but c'mon, you all know he'd be better than Grassley.

Better a moderate than a right-winger, I guess.
(Which to me is like, yeah, better eating cardboard than eating poop.)

8. BRALEY! BRALEY! BRALEY! |
|
Damn I hope Braley runs for that spot. Believe it or not, I'm no big fan of Tom Vilsack.
Something just really seems cool about having Culver in Terrace Hill and Harkin and Braley repping us in the Senate.

10. We want Braley all to ourselves |
|
I suppose he may be better for the entire State and country if he werte a Senator, but we may end up with some piece of work like Hartsuch if Braley were to go. And I like it here and do not wish to move.

I'd LOVE to have Senator Braley in D.C. some day, but I am VERY happy with having Congressman Braley there RIGHT NOW!

Didn't he take over Chuck's House seat? After seeing him on IPTV this week, it is clear that Bruce is the smartest and most articulate Democratic lawmaker in our ranks.

Sounds like ole chuck had some hand picked folks in the crowd to ask him specific questions.. Glad to hear that Dave Goodner was there.. I would love to see ole Chuck sweat some answers he's not really comfortable with to begin with...

13. Cedar county is pretty - uh - conservative |
|
Although there are some good Dems up there, most wouldn't go to a Chuck event. Except for the day he wandered into West Branch last summer. That was a hostile crowd.

14. Good grief. Sounds like a meeting of the Dumb & Dumber fan club. |
|
How do we fight this? They are so blinded by ideology and propaganda that they can't see their own party is actually harming their best interests.
The problem isn't just Grassley. It's also that crowd that elected him. If we had a more intelligent populace, he wouldn't be in office.

17. Well - the media they listen to feeds their warped views |
|
All the major radio stations in the area are owned by ClearChannel or Cumulus both if which are very RW. FuxNews is played everywhere. And for those who listen to NPR, well it is not exactly a beacon of light. We will be trying to get a candidate elected up there against a neanderthal repuke.

which, of course, is never going to happen in Keokuk.
But if I ever do, i'm going to give that motherfucker a piece of my mind.
He is an absolute piece of shit who is tirelessly doing everything he can to make the poor poorer.
He is a shameless motherfucker.
Iowa is pretty depressed economically. I can't believe they continue to vote this criminal in. Hold this fucker accountable.

"In a statement explaining why changes are needed, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said bankruptcy 'was not intended to be a convenient financial planning tool where deadbeats can get out of paying their debt scot-free while honest Americans who play by the rules have to foot the bill.'"
Yes he makes me sick on that front. His disdain for anyone who is not a millionaire is noticeable.

in subsidies don't he? Chuckles was really upset when his little town lost it's convenience store, but not a problem to throw a few million out of work. It is well past time to start a movement to get him out in 2010.
