Since this is an Iowa Forum, how many here farm or own |
|
farmland? Just curious. Iowa farmers are not just stereotypes,I realize.

2. I didn't even KNOW any |
|
I guess there were always a few farm kids in shcool, but I didn't know them all that well and never went to their houses.
I didn't even know any farmers until I was an adult and moved to a small town (away from Iowa City). Even then, we lived in town for 10 years before I actually met any farmers. Now we have farmer friends! :)

14. We know some here from my wife's church. They are Dems |
|
but conservative on some issues. Friendly to us old radicals anyway! Our renters are GOP but really not very political and of course we are on good terms with them.

And there I stayed until the ripe old age of two. Then moved to Keokuk in 1955. Moved back to same farm in 65 to 67 then back to Keokuk. Have not lived on farm since.

But I ain't a farmer! Grandfather and other relatives were back in the day. And I went to school with a bunch - some of my classmates that still farm are doing quite well.

It's always fun to hear them bitch about taxes and big government (except when it comes to government farm subsidies!).

13. Some of my relatives were farmers who were also Democrats |
|
but they were outnumbered by the GOP farmers. I don't know of too many Dem farmers right now.

Most of it was farmed before we bought the place and moved in 1991. Instead of corn, it is now pasture land for horses.

15. Late to the thread but... |
|
I come from a farm family. I was raised on a farm, my grandparents and most of my aunts/uncles were farmers. Only one of my uncles is still farming.
As for Dem/Repub - my dad and his two brothers were/are all Republicans. My mom and at least one of her brothers are Dems. Another of her brothers is a Repub and I'm not sure about the other brother (deceased since 1996). I think her sister is a Repub. My dad and my uncles - all farmers- used to get into some very heated political/farming debates at family get-togethers!! Not sure about any of my grandparents. I think my one remaining grandma is a Dem. So, kind of a mix with a slight lean towards the red. My older sister and I are both Dems (I'm the most liberal) and my younger sister used to be more of a Republican (voted for Bush in 2000) but has wised up in recent years and is a huge fan of John Edwards. A bit conservative on some issues yet, maybe? But overall, a Dem. My younger brother is a Repub (ugh.)
Oh, and I guess just to directly answer the original question - I don't live on a farm currently, or own any farmland. I do live in the country, however.
