Heard a rumor that this year's RAGBRAI has been canceled...

Hasn't been announced officially yet. Not sure if that means they just want to "wait" or if there is still some contingencies? But the thread on this messageboard seems to allege this to be the case:

That will certainly be a blow to the communities on the route. Many have spent a considerable amount of money preparing for the riders.

A colleague of mine who saw this rumor on HROT called the RAGBRAI director on his cell late Monday afternoon and he said that the event is still on as of now.

7. They are supposed to come through our town but

some of the road over to us are still closed awaiting inspection by engineers. I know it is worse elsewhere. It doesn't surprise me that such a consideration would be made.
