In his political science class at MCC, Rep. Jeff Kaufmann announced that the republican party would pay $1,000 to anyone who would make calls for the GOP for October. Kaufmann is the instructor and a republican. He is running unopposed in his district. My question is - does this cross the ethical divide? I have no problem with a posting on a board, but I think bringing it up in class by the instructor who actually has a stake in getting help crosses a line. Thoughts?

really - unless he attched a grade to someone accepting the job I don't see an issue with it.
However, I do find it funny that they have to cough up that kind of dough to get people to make phone calls. I'm going to mention that to the Obama coordinator today when Debi, Jr. and I go in to volunteer.

Hell maybe I'll volunteer to make calls. Of course, I'll tell the truth, lying is against everything I was brought up to believe, so they may not want me.

5. That's pushing it though |

I think it does push the lines of ethical behavior for Kaufmann to ask for this in class. I would hope that he would've went to administration first and cleared it with them but I wouldn't hold my breath. Maybe as long as it doesn't effect a person's standing grade wise there's nothing actually ethically wrong with that, but I wouldn't be comfortable with it either.
