14. My parents got 6 feet (yes, feet) of water in their basement.

11 inches of rain in George IA. Reports of 150-500 homes flooded and water damaged in a town of 1100.

GEORGE, Iowa (KTIV) - Officials in Lyon County, Iowa estimate as much as 11 inches of rain fell on George, Iowa, on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Because there was so much rain at once, damage to this small town is affecting almost everyone. At least 150 homes have water in their basements according to Lyon County emergency management. Wayne Jepsen says " At this point our water levels gone down we just have to get all the homes pumped out and try to get the infrastructure back in place again."

There was so much water in basements that foundation walls even caved in. Donna Krahling's home was one of them. Her son, David, says there was at least an inch of water above the main floor of her home last night. "And that pressure caused this basement wall to buckle and water of course rushed into the basement," said David Krahling, homeowner.

The water is starting to recede in Donna's basement. She says that everything will be fixed but nothing can be saved. "Everything, I think everything will have to be thrown away cuz it was up to the ceiling so everything has been soaked up. So I don't think there is anything we can save out of there. says Krahling.

The worst thing about that kind of flooding is the mold afterwards.. and the smell.. Hope your friends are okay.

Pretty much everything in the basement and garage is damaged or destroyed.

Like many small IA towns (and a lot of America I suppose), there isn't a lot of disposable income to fix things. FEMA was there making assesments so hopefully we'll see some aid. I'll be back up there in a week or so.

Yep we saw them go by this morning.. really neat .. One family went by on a bike built for four.. We grabbed a cup of coffee and just watched them go by for over an hour.. and they were still coming by the hundreds.

we have been very lucky that we have missed much of the really bad stuff - unlike other years.
We have been so busy that checking into DU for more than a few minutes is a luxury. Got to help Chuck back to the farm.
