I'm glad to hear this!
Dear x,
Today, you and I scored a major victory for clean air and water.
One more nail was put in the coffin of Branstad’s corporate, factory farm agenda as House File 643-- the bill to transfer water quality protection to the Dept. of Ag --failed to make it through a Senate committee for wider consideration. On the eve of the April 1st funnel date, the bill is effectively dead. This is the fifth of six bad factory farm deregulation bills that you, and other CCI members like you, have stopped after months of hard work.
Rally and Lobby Day
You were up against big-moneyed lobbyists, a hostile House, and a governor who opened the door for factory farms to run rampant in our state for fifteen years and continues to put their interests first. But despite the odds, everyday people like you and me recognized the threat to our air, water, and quality of life, and we banded together, fought back, and won.
Of course, the session isn’t over. We know of at least one more bad bill looming over the legislature – SF500. We also know that we still need to hold the DNR accountable to the people so that they enforce laws and rules already on the books and stop factory farm polluters.
It’s more important than ever that you join us for a factory farm tour with new DNR Director Roger Lande and watch for special updates during the final stretch of the legislative session.
We’ll keep you updated, but for now we wanted to share one piece of very good news: we’re winning.
In the meantime, please share our victory with your friends on Facebook and Twitter, or forward this email.
Thanks for all that you’ve done and continue to do for justice,
Matt Denner
