DFA Training Academy coming to Lawrence 10/22-23, 2005 |
|
Here's the official announcement I got from DFA. This is one of the things I've been working on these past few weeks. Check out our Lawrence DFA website for updates at http://lawrencedfa.comYou have the power. Now it's time to harness and direct that power. And the DFA Training Academy is coming to Lawrence, Kansas on October 22-23 to help.
Grassroots leaders are working to bring you a weekend full of campaign training, simulation and serious fun:

At the DFA Training Academy, you'll learn how to more effectively communicate a message, influence your local media, run a local campaign and build your local grassroots group's attendance, activity, and effectiveness.
Local and national experts on Campaign Management, Field Organizing, Communications and Get-Out-The-Vote will be on-hand to instruct and work with you one-on-one.
This is no social get together; the training is an intensive two-day series of sessions and workshops geared toward your particular political landscape. We build the program so you can go out and actually use the skills you learn as soon as you get home. We follow up with you to make sure you have the support you need in your communities.

If you can't make the weekend in Lawrence, check out some of the other training dates across the country:

I hope to see you in Lawrence!

1. This might be what I needed to really get me going. |
|
I come here a lot and read and write some letters once in a while but maybe I need something like this to give me some more skills so I can be more vocal in my beliefs. Is there a cap an attendance? 27 people have already signed up, I see. Also, a schedule of the training days somewhere? Sorry if I missed it.

We're still working on the final program. We're in the process of contacting groups that expressed interest in the DFA training to find out what sessions would be most beneficial. So far it looks like there will be two training tracks, one for grassroots advocacy and one for campaigns. Once we get the final program worked out we will post it at the Lawrence DFA website.
Due to space limitations our cut-off point is 150 people.

4. DH and I are both interested (though I'm more likely to be able to |
|
attend). Do you know any more about the program yet?

5. I have been in and out of consciousness this past week |
|
with a cold that's kicking my ass. We've also taken in a friend and his daughter. The dad works strange hours and I'm watching his daughter when he's gone. I'm a little out of the loop right now but I'll know more by the end of this week.
BTW, my hat is off to activist moms. I don't know how they do it. I'm running kid(s) - all but two are under 10 - all over town, feeding, cleaning up after them and just trying to keep up with them. P.S. Yesterday afternoon we were outside and they (five kids, ranging from 4 to 9) were playing with the hose. They knew it would piss me off if they squirted me with the hose so they left me alone. One of them, the 4 year old, thought it was time to give me a makeover. They did my hair, my nails (first time I've had nail polish on in close to 20 years) and make-up. Once they finished, they started over again. I ended up looking like the bastard child of Katherine Harris and Tammy Faye Bakker. I think I'm traumatized. My husband and our friend (the Dad) think it's hysterical.
When does school start in Kansas? I can't wait.

6. My son starts on the 16th. |

I can't wait either. My kids haven't tried to make me over yet ... though there have been some other unfortunate events around here lately. I think it's waaaaay past time for a vacation. :hide:
