Job approval ratings for President George W. Bush slipped to 37 percent in a CBS News poll earlier this month, but a check with some Kansans in the region who contributed to past Bush campaigns found no erosion of confidence.
"There's such hatred for the man," Winnie Laughlin, Mount Hope, said of the criticism.
She said she's learned not to believe what she reads in the newspaper or hears from television pundits. Laughlin called Bush a "man of character" and said her opinion of him has not changed.
"I'm just as proud of him as I was the first day I supported him," said Cecil Worden, Galva. The next presidential election is more than three years away. :yoiks: "I hope we can find somebody who can continue his type of leadership," Worden said.
Richard Hanson, Liberal, said Bush was "right on track." As for Libby's indictment, Hanson regarded that as "strictly political." If Libby hadn't done anything wrong, Hanson asked, why could he be accused of misleading the grand jury? "The Democrats are just continually manipulating the news media," Hanson said.
