Can anyone help (more) in Missouri? |
|
I know that there are a ton of Kansas Democrats helping out over on the Missouri side this year, but if you can give a couple more hours this month it would be a huge favor.
My sister is a Kerry Team Leader in Ward 10-1 (it's in the neighborhood of 85th and Wornall - very close to the Kerry HDQ in KC). She's organizing a canvas for September 25th, probably between noon and three o'clock. We have a list of targeted voters, and the area isn't all that large so we'll probably finish a little before three. We'll meet before the canvas and if anyone hasn't canvassed before we'll do a run-through. We've gotta get out the vote in Jackson County this year if Kerry has any chance of turning MO blue.
So, if anyone is close to the state line and can give a couple of hours, please PM me. If you can help with phone banking for this ward we can always use help there as well. It would be fun to have a DU canvas - at least, as fun as canvassing can be! Thanks in advance --Denise

1. I'm coming to Missouri Sep 21 thru 29 |
|
To do some events in St. Louis and Kansas City. Some of these will be for Change for Missouri. I was there a couple of weeks ago and did some events for Emmanual Cleaver and Paul LeVota and a bunch of other state house candidates at the Uptown Theatre. If you can use my comedy talents or emceeing and hosting prowess for an event around that time, e-mail me at AWhitneyBrown@att.net, and I'll try to work it in. Yes, I'm the A. Whitney Brown who was on the Daily Show and SNL. Still doing political comedy. I also worked at AAR and we're going to be doing a lot more in Ohio and other places as the election closes in.

2. And after you're done canvassing in Missouri, |
|
how about some of the Missourians coming over to the Kansas side to help out Dennis Moore, Nancy Boyda, Lee Jones, and some of the many fine Democrats in local races.
Really. I quite honestly don't think Kansans should be helping out in Missouri unless there's just a little reciprocity here.
I drove from Overland Park to Brookside and back this afternoon, using different routes each way, and on both sides of the state line I saw far more Kerry signs than Bush ones. At least 30 Kerry signs and exactly four Bush ones. The ratios held up in both states.
So, I repeat, can we have some help over here?

...and I'm already signed up to volunteer for Dennis Moore, and I've donated to Lee Jones.
I'm helping my sister in Missouri on the Kerry campaign because the electoral votes there might be crucial. So, I'm doing both, and if others can, that's great.

I did serious volunteer work for Joan Ruff during her brief campaign, then for Dennis Moore until I was asked to run for office myself. Perhaps you'd like to help me out?
I just cannot stand it that the Kerry campaign is asking Kansans to cross over and there's absolutely no Missourians coming over here to help out. Yeah, I know that the common wisdom is that Kerry has no chance here -- which is EXACTLY why I'm sorely tempted not to bother to vote in the presidential race come November. But have you noticed the imbalance of yard signs? I drove down Lee Blvd from, I dunno, 70th street or so, all the way to 103rd street and saw one or two Bush signs and a dozen or so Kerry signs. It was incredible.
So I wish they wouldn't just write off Kansas like we don't count. I hate the Electoral College system more and more with each election.

I was on the same stretch of Lee Boulevard yesterday and I saw the exact same thing. Kerry signs are all over Johnson County.
As far as Missourians, most of them I know are pretty focused on electing not only Kerry, but there's going to be a difficult governor's race and Nancy Farmer isn't moving much in her race against Bond. They have a pretty full plate as it is. The only easy race looks to be Cleaver.
It's the presidential race that motivates me. I despise Bush and all he stands for, and if anyone from the Kansas Democratic party had attempted to involve me in the Kerry campaign here (or if the Kerry campaign had done so), I'd be working for Kerry in Kansas in a flash. But there's very little time left and I suppose we have to focus on what's obtainable. If MO is the margain of victory in this election, I'm not going to stay on the sidelines.
And sure, I'd be glad to do whatever I can in your race. I'd be glad to walk a precinct, do literature drops, or make phone calls. I'm a victim of the Bush economy - I lost a tech job in Northern California last year to India - so I certainly have time on my hands. PM me with some contact information and I'll do what I can.
