I saw our newly elected Rep., Nancy Boyda, on KO. They were talking about orientation for the new Congress and they interviewed (very briefly) our Nancy! Okay, she's MuseRider's rep but several of us did our part to get her elected too.
It made me smile.

1. What did you think of her? |
|
I was wondering how she presented herself on camera.

Seriously, she looked almost better on camera than in real life. She looked young, excited and she sounded great and bright and excited. I was surprised to see her on NBC news. She has great presence and that really will count for something since she can back it up with intelligence. YAY!

4. She came off like a Kansas Democrat |
|
She's already doing a good job of representing us. She said they were getting a good dose of the ethics. She was articulate and photogenic.

2. Yay! Nancy!! I feel happy every time I think of her. |

Lucky Kansas!
Did you see that the count of some provisional ballots was finished and there are at least 2, maybe a third, blue seats out in Sedgwich and Sumner counties.
Big Unit posted this on the DU this evening:
The Kansas House race between neo-con incumbent Republican Willa DeCastro and Democrat Terry MacLahlan that was too close to call is over with the counting of provisionals today. MACLACHLAN is still the winner, by even a larger margin of 50 votes, which puts him more than one-half of one percent ahead. So if DeCastro wants a recount, she'll have to pay for it. Along with Raj Goyle - whose margin was too great to overcome - we now definitely have unseated two incumbent Republicans in Sedg. Cty., plus another in Sumner county (Vince Wetta beating Bill McCreary). OH HAPPY DAY!

5. Next on the list are Roberts and turning JoCo blue |
|
If that sounds like a tall order, remember that very few people thought Nancy would win six months ago. We can do it. We just need to keep working.
I did read the post from Big Unit. That was wonderful news.

The question is "who is left for them to run?" I'd like to see Klein run because it would be easier to elect any Dem that ran against him.

8. Ryun, if I had to guess |
|
Because they don't have centrist new blood with any name recognition, and I think that the Klein party is officially over.
Perhaps there is a runnable moderate out in Manhattan, or Junktown. The Kansas Republican party has a bright future behind it. You'd think they would be a bit more cloning positive. I think America might like Ike all over again. Today he'd be center left.

9. "bright future behind it" is right |

Ryun looks dirty. Taking money from ARMPAC, the deal on his house and his failure to communicate with his constituency are just some of the things that got him in trouble and lost him the election. He's got some rehabilitating to do before he can run for office again. I can't think of one Republican who has credibility and name recognition.
The only person I can think of that they might try is Praeger. She's pretty moderate and won election pretty easily. The problem for most Republicans is that she is a true moderate and may not make it through the primary if the wingnuts have a candidate.

10. Other Moderate Repubs |
|
Don't forget Ron Thornapple, who early-on had made noises about running for Governor. He was also re-elected by a large margin. Same thing for Big-Lips Lynn Jenkins - also re-elected by a large margin.

Kobach, Kline, Bob Corkins (soon), Kay O'Connor, Connie Morris, Jim Ryun, Doug Mays, Bonnie Huy (who else can we add) will undoubtedly be looking for another govmint job they can try to exploit for their fading careers. Do you have to be a lawyer to compete for the JoCo District Atty. job? I think they should all compete on the next South Sea Survivor show, but steal and cast adrift their passports.

14. Is Klein's license up-to-date? |
|
I know he has a habit of letting it lapse. Then again, I don't think he should try for a job with any legal expertise required.
I think they should all pack up and go help Pastor Ted through his time of need. They all deserve each other, and as you pointed out, it would be nice if they all needed each other somewhere else.

I've never felt more proud to be a Kansas. I've met her about three times, once in Leavenworth, another at the candidate forum in Leavenworth again, and at the Tonganoxie VFW forum. I donated around $50+ dollars to her, I hope she got all of it, and I canvassed like hell and registered many of my friends and co-workers to vote for her.
I can't wait to see what she does past January, and I'm gonna make sure she holds true to a bill that will becoming in front of Congress at some point in the next term. If she doesn't, God knows I will call the living hell out of her office and totally ambush her someday she comes back here....
But, she seems like she'll keep her word!! ^_^
And to be honest I think if they run more right-wingers/ultra scary conservatives against her it will be easier and easier to get her re-elected. So part of me is hoping they do just that.

We worked on her 2004 run and again this year. I've had the pleasure of meeting her several times. Several of us DU'ers painted signs for her one day. I made a contact for the campaign and delivered her campaign materials up to Jefferson County a few times.
I hope she works out as well as we all hope. I think Nancy will keep in touch with the constituents better than Ryun did. I know that was always a big complaint about him. She's also more approachable than Ryun ever was and I think she has an open mind. At the very least, you can talk to her and that's more than most people could ever do with Ryun.
