Upcoming Casino Vote in Wichita |
|
What do you guys think? I'm on the fence. I've always thought casinos were just another business and I could care less if folks are dumb enough to waste their money, but I'm hearing that since we're NOT a tourist destination, that we'll actually wind up losing money in our economy? I guess that makes sense.
Here's a URL I just found: www.nocasinoshere.org Any other Wichitans on here interested in this vote?
By the way, any other Wichitans happy about the alcohol on Sundays thing? I went and bought some just cause I COULD! LOL

1. The casinos in KC have been a terrific boost to our economy |
|
And if you don't like to gamble, they all have great restaurants.

3. Good-Paying Jobs & Anti-Urban Sprawl |
|
I am not a gambler, though I have piddled around in a couple of casinos over the years as cheap entertainment. But the daughter of a close friend works as a dealer in an Okla City casino. She did not complete college, is about 26 years old, and she is making over $60,000/year plus benefits. One of the attributes of a destination casino would be large numbers of good paying jobs. I also think the building of a destination casino in downtown Wichita would spur development of other entertainment-related businesses on the periphery, and would encourage other businesses to relocate or remain in downtown Wichita - so this is very much an idea that could help stem the tide of ever-expanding city limits and gobbling up of farmland and greenspace.

4. It will be built in the area regardless. Sumner county has already certified their vote |
|
to have a casino. The Legislature gave Sedgwick first dibs though. If we vote NO, then the casino will be built in Wellington. All the Sedgwick County resident who go there to spend their money will come back here with any of the purported social problems. So why not have it here?
