JULIA'S VOICE ANNOUNCES "MOMS AGAINST THE WAR" WILL STAND FOR PEACE ON MOTHER'S DAY
Overland Park, Kansas, May 11, 2008, 3:00 p.m. – This Mother’s Day a group of Mothers and others will reclaim Mother’s Day to be observed as it was originally intended by Standing For Peace. Julia Ward Howe created Mother’s Day to be a day when women would stand for peace and against war. 138 years later, the true meaning of the day has been lost in greeting cards and the quest for the perfect gift for mom. This event is a call to those who are a mother or have a mother to restore Mother’s Day to its original intent and Stand for Peace and Against War.
Moms Against the War is an event being planned by Julia’s Voice, the modern-day voice of Mother’s Day Founder Julia Ward Howe. The Stand For Peace action will be held on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. on the north and south sidewalks between Quivira and Nieman on 95th Street in Overland Park, Kansas.
Julia Ward Howe, an abolitionist, suffragette, and poet said, “Rise up and oppose war in all its forms, to come together across national lines, to recognize what we hold in common above what divides us, and commit to finding peaceful resolutions to conflicts.” Sara Sautter, a co-founder of the group, says, “We think that when the women of the Heartland, right here in Kansas, speak up for peace and against war, it will allow Julia’s voice to be heard once again. We would like to return this special holiday for mothers to its original intent – a day to work for peace and against war.” This Mother’s Day, women and those who love them will gather together to do just that.
