How about some "Kansas Love" for our dear Governor for her coal plant veto |
|
You can give Kathleen some love for vetoing coal plants on the basis that they emit greenhouse gases. Go here and hit the "recommend" button for Kathleen: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=115x146157

1. Accolades for the Governor; Bronx Cheer for Neufeld |
|
If her veto holds, and it looks very good that it will, not only will this have been a remarkable political achievement in favor of clean air, but it will also seriously hamstring Speaker Neufeld. After all, he went into a 3+ week long recess after missing by only one vote overriding her veto in the House. He cannot be seen as effective if he cannot come up with one vote during the recess.
I cannot emphasize enough just how unimagineable this victory would have seemed ten years ago. A multibillion dollar jobs program for western Kansas, and for a community whose economy was devasted by the burning of the Conagra plant 3 years ago, causing the loss of 3000 good paying jobs. When was the last time this kind of economic developement project/jobs program was jettisoned in favor of protecting our environment? While I still feel we need a replacement jobs program for rural Kansas, I am proud to be a Democrat in Kansas.
