KKKris Kobach is bring Sheriff Joe Arpaio to Olathe July 13 |
|
From an email I received this morning: > > I would like for all of you to get July 13th, 5:00 and 7:00 on your calendars. You may not have heard yet, but Kris Kobach is hosting an event at MidAmerican Nazarene Campus on the 13th at 7:00 p.m. It is called "Illegal is Illegal". He is bringing Sheriff Joe Arpaio to Kansas to speak with him at this event, to help Kris bolster his campaign for Secretary of State and blame all of our problems on immigrants. So, we are going to do the following: > > 1. We are bringing in national spokespersons to hold an event at 5:00 on the same campus. We will have national and local immigration leaders, educating the media and public about the facts of immigration and the civil violations that have taken place under Sheriff Arpaio's watch - and the unconstitutionality of the Arizona bill that Kris Kobach helped to draft. The College has given us an auditorium that holds 110 people, and we will be inviting all of the State, local and federal politicians and their staff to educate them about the costs of following Kobach's path and the costs of a copycat ARizona bill happening here in Kansas and Missouri. > > > 2. Along with IJAM and the Kansas Missouri Dream Activists, there will be a peaceful, silent protest outside of the 7:00 meeting of Kobach/Arpaio. > We will need many bodies there - please plan to attend and bring a good sign for the media. We need to outnumber them. > > 3. We will need some people to attend their event to "fact-check" the statements made and make sure that the lies/exaggerations against immigrants are challenged immediately.

1. Location of event changed to Ritz Charles in Overland Park |
|
After the college received numerous complaints they asked Kobach to move the event.

2. the first part sounds interesting |

However, it is outside my district. As it turned out, I went to the Brown County Fair. Didn't hear about this until I was watching the evening news and hearing about a supposed bomb threat.

Candidates would have had a field day at this event. I had several conversations with folks there who were planning on registering Republican to vote in the primaries. They had no idea we even had Democratic candidates, especially for US Senate. There were 200 people there, some came from as far away as Topeka and Wichita. Had I realized this I would have gladly passed out campaign lit for the KDP.
