I heard one of the Phelpses on a call-in radio show this morning. |
|
It was one of his granddaughters (a 21-y.o. cousin of Jael, who was defeated in last night's election). The DJs on 96.5 (The Buzz) were slamming the Phelps family, so she called in. She said "Who cares? We got the national media exposure, and that's what we really wanted. We were in Time magazine!" The DJs immediately started pressuring her to come in tomorrow morning to spend 4 hours with a homosexual man (insisting that she would have fun, and she would like him). She was open to the idea, but insisted she had to work in the morning. I had to turn off the radio before I found out what the outcome was ... I'm hoping to find out from the station whether or not she'll actually do it. If she does agree, they may find they've bitten off more than they can chew....

I would love to hear her. One of our Vote No guys did a debate on one of our stations. He did a great job but the other guy was just a pusbag and after they were done Shirley Roper Phelps or Phelps Roper,I forget, got about 10 minutes of uninterrupted time without any time for questions, she was just allowed to spew. I would love to hear this if they are on. I will tune in in the morning and find out if you do not hear.

4. I really wish the media would just keep ignoring them |
|
Their agenda is obviously, as the grandaughter said, national media exposure. So ignoring them is the best way to combat their hate.

5. It's amazing how much attention they're getting, isn't it? |
|
For such a small group, they have managed to get an amazing amount of publicity. I think you're right that it only encourages them.

6. BTW, they backed out of being on the radio this morning. |
|
It's kind of a pity, since the DJs they would have been on were extreme liberals who might have eaten them alive. (I can dream, can't I? )

7. I heard them talking to Jael this morning |
|
It was pretty funny. They kept saying that they just wanted to do a make-over show (actually make-up and clothes, etc., not making over her attitude - which she needs!). That girl is scary. Her dad didn't want her to do the show because he was afraid she would say something wrong and mix up their "message." :scared: I'm so disturbed by their whole attitude.
I like how the DJs kept calling her home the "compound." Were they playing on words with that statement or do they really have some sort compound with followers, etc.???

8. There *is* a Phelps compound, but I don't know whether Jael lives |
|
there. The church itself is guarded, and the general public can't just walk into a service. I would think this would make them non-tax-exempt, wouldn't you?

9. Another thought ... if Jael was running for office, was her family |
|
really pulling the strings and telling her what to say, every step of the way? I'm a little surprised that they'd let her run for office, but not go on a silly morning show. Hadn't she done radio interviews in Topeka?
There I go again, trying to use logic to figure out the Phelps family, when I know that will never get me anywhere... :P
