So, what's up with the sign in front of KY Democratic Headquarters

that says "Lieutent Governor Wanted"?. At least I think it was Democratic Headquarters, it's along the freeway between Louisville and Lexington.

And, what I did on my Kentucky vacation (or as we called it "The Old Gray Mare Tour"):

Louisville Slugger Factory

Churchill Downs (Derby Museum). Having only seen it on TV on Derby Day, we thought it would be out in the country and were surprised to find it pretty much right in town. It reminded us of where the Minnesota State Fair Grounds are.

Cruised around Bardstown Road and stopped at a coffee shop, nifty little area, but it made us feel a tad past our prime.

Daniel Boone's Grave. Really cool old cemetary - but what matieral do they use for tombstones? We saw some that were maybe 10 or 15 years old that were nearly as hard to read as some of the ones more than 100 years old.

Woodford Reserve Distillary. Unfortunately we did this on Sunday so they couldn't even give us a sip, but we were able to buy Bourbon balls.

Kentucky Horse Park

My Old Kentucky Home. (Okay, that was trite). We noticed this beautiful trees on the property that we'd never seen before. Finally asked what they were - magnolias as it turned out (damn dumb Yankees).

And, the last thing we did on Sunday night was go to the Kentucky Theater in downtown Lexington to see "A Prairie Home Companion". We thought it was appropriate as the friend we met in Lexington is a former Minnesotan who now lives in North Carolina. I didn't think there were any theaters like that left. We have a couple old ones in Minneapols, but they do stage shows and don't show films anymore.

We were only in the area Saturday and Sunday and know we missed a lot. We're thinking we may have to go back in a couple years as it makes a good meeting point for the three of us.

Beautiful country and the people were all very nice and helpful when we needed directions or asked questions about something. And, when we drove through the UK campus it was nice to see that so many of the stop signs had "Bush" painted on them under the "stop". I also noted that I saw very few "W" stickers, but several Kerry stickers.

You must have been lucky to not see many "W" or B/C '04 stickers. Still plenty around here. Gotta keep in mind that Louisville is home to what I call Six Flags Over Jesus. HUGE Southeast Christian Church. Initial construction was over $75 million and reached $100 million with a 2nd building. There's a 3rd building going up now about as big as the first so I can just imagine what the whole enchilada has cost. We were also home to that infamous "Justice Sunday" debacle.


But, glad you had a good time and too bad you didn't get a taste of some good Ky. bourbon. Woodford is damn fine!

2. I'm glad you got to see the Kentucky Theater.

When you went to the Louisville Slugger factory. Do you remember seeing a old warehouse across the street from the factory? (on Finzer st)

I used to work in that warehouse. It's probably yuppie lofts now.

Two other Ky Bourbon's I recommend: Eagle Rare and Knob Creek. I'm drinking Knob Creek right now. It's my current favorite. Eagle Rare and Knob Creek are both around $25 a fifth.



Reviews. You can't go wrong with these bourbons. I did recoil in horror when he did mention using Eagle Rare in a mixed drink.

A splash of water will bring out the sweetness in these bourbons, but all three are terrific neat.

3. I did notice the warehouse, but not what's in it now.

I got a bang out of the glass store (maybe factory) a couple doors down from the Slugger factory that haa the huge baseball going through a pane of "glass" on the side of the building.

I'm really not much of a bourban drinker (my drug of choice is Jameson Irish), but if the opportunity arises, I'll remember your advice.
