LEXINGTON, Ky. — Hours after his former fiancee was found shot to death in Lexington, former Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Nunn has been found shot in Barren County, according to Jay Blanton, spokesman for Gov. Steve Beshear.

Amanda Ross was found Friday morning in the parking lot of Opera House Square Town Homes at 541 West Short Street in Lexington. Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn confirmed that Ross died of a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at 7:09 a.m. at University of Kentucky Hospital.

Nunn, who lost the 2003 Republican primary to Ernie Fletcher, who later went on to be the first Republican governor of Kentucky since Nunn's father in 1967, and Ross had a history of domestic conflict. In March, a Fayette County judge ordered former gubernatorial candidate Steve Nunn to have no contact with Ross, his former fiancée, for one year because of a domestic violence incident in February.

Nunn had been deputy secretary of health and human services under Beshear, a Democrat that Nunn endorsed over Fletcher, but resigned after the domestic violence incident.

Aside from being barely parseable, the article says that Nunn was "found shot" in the first paragraph, then never mentions it again. I think "Ashlee" needs another year of journalism school.

My biggest news pet peeve: mentioning all the relevant parties rightoffthebat, and then referring to them strictly by last name throughout the rest of the article, without so much as a Mr., Ms., or Mrs. to denote gender. It's especially annoying when the last name could also be a first name (ex.: John Ross, Carrie Winston, etc.).

I often have to backtrack to figure out who is saying what. Pathetic.

There are conflicting reports about what injuries Nunn received.

Although Gov. Steve Beshear's office said Nunn was found shot, Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton said Nunn apparently cut his wrists.

He was found around 9 a.m. CST and transported to The Medical Center in Bowling Green, where he was in fair condition Friday afternoon, according to the hospital.

"He's fine," Eaton said. "He's talking and stuff like that."

Nunn, the son of former Gov. Louie B. Nunn, was arrested on charges of violating a domestic violence order of protection filed by his former fiancee, Amanda Ross, Lexington police Lt. Doug Pape said. Nunn had a handgun in his possession, which is a violation of the order.

Pape said Nunn is "a guy we want to talk to" in reference to Ross' shooting.

Barren County coroner Mike Swift said ambulances were dispatched to Cosby United Methodist Church near the Barren County-Hart County line on LeGrande Highway. The church's cemetery is where Nunn's parents, former governor Louie B. Nunn and former first lady Beula Cornelius Nunn, are buried.

Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn confirmed that Ross died of a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at 7:09 a.m. at University of Kentucky Hospital. Neighbor Analy Scorsone said she heard five shots and screams at 6:11 a.m. in a courtyard outside Ross's condominium. Nunn and Ross had a history of domestic conflict. On March 4, a Fayette County judge ordered Nunn to have no contact with Ross for one year because of a domestic violence incident in February.

Late 60's early 70's I was a YR. I later resigned re. Watergate and changed my political views. I knew a lot of these Repukes in my salad days and I remember him and some of his cronies.They were intolerant pricks then too.Seems like they will legislate your morals but they are exempt from limits on themselves. There needs to be a stronger word than hypocrite! Fuck the KY GOP. (His dad was actually a good Gov. by KY standards)
