FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Armed with warrants, Kentucky Bureau of Investigation agents searched the state Capitol offices of two of Gov. Ernie Fletcher's top aides yesterday.
The search was part of the attorney general's investigation into hiring, transfer and promotion practices in the Transportation Cabinet, based on a complaint that a state worker filed Monday with the Personnel Board.
The offices belong to Dave Disponett, an unpaid Fletcher volunteer who is treasurer of the Kentucky Republican Party, and Dick Murgatroyd, the governor's deputy chief of staff and former deputy transportation secretary.
In the complaint by Douglas W. Doerting, the assistant personnel director in the Transportation Cabinet, their names appear often in documents Doerting filed to support his allegations of merit system violations.
