catch the guy that was planting bombs around downtown a few years back? My cousin works downtown and she showed me his letters, she had copies. His acronym was POG (Pissed Off Guy?) and he seemed to be mad at officials in LaRue County. Can't understand why he was terrorizing Etown.

we had to go to E-town for our entertainment. You know they fixed up the old State Theatre.

Honestly I try to avoid going to Etown, the traffic is a mess.

We probably played you in football. That's all they lived for back then. I was in the band, of course. Not much else to do around there. Except drive around the Burger Queen.

At least ya'll had a Dairy Queen . :P We beat ya'll in football in, I want to say 85, and it was the first victory over the Panthers in something like 25 years.

and it was a Burger Queen (Follow Queenie Bee!) Do they still have those up there? I don't think we had a Dairy Queen.

We had a Hall's Tastee Freeze - but everyone called it Parks.. because the sign said "Park" on the top and "Drive-in" on the bottom. It used to drive me crazy when I first moved there because I couldn't figure out WHERE they were talking about. They thought *I* was crazy because I called it Hall's - which was it's name. (sigh)

12. Etown update - the cannonball is still buried in the building downtown

and gets about 2½ visitors a year to admire. Yes, the State Theater has been restored as a stage and cultural events venue (no more movies). There, also, have been performance art stages added at T. K. Stone Junior High and at the new John Hardin High School in the country (JHHS was named after an old Hardin county pioneer who killed Indians in the process of settling the town - you can imagine the uproar that name caused with no success in changing). We have a couple of wonderful concerts at Freeman Lake Party each summer with the highlight being the Louisville Orchestra.

As far as I know the mad bomber is still running loose upon the populace - or he has moved to Montana and founded a militia. No more bombs. At least this week.

Have grandkids who attend Etown High although all my kids graduated from East and Central Hardin - the rivalries between the city and county schools are still going strong.

Remember the marching bands quite well. Oldest daughter marched with the East Hardin Band (now defunct), a cousin marched with the Larue County Hawks and another cousin married the son of the long time Larue County band leader (and they now live in North Carolina).

Burger Queen and Queenie Bee are long gone although both Etown and Hodgenville have Dairy Queens. Just don't seem to be the magnet for the local kids as in years gone by.

Still has a small town's attitude with a much larger town's traffic problems. Dixie Highway is a nightmare and doesn't look to improve in the foreseeable future. This might change with the downsizing of Fort Knox. I'm deep into the bible belt, holy than thou, don't drink in public (but everyone does it in private), red state, Bush is god country. It is a struggle every day not to rant at my neighbors and in places of businesses.

On the up side, people are open and friendly and helpful, Etown did vote to go "wet" 2-3 years back (after a 50+ year battle - only time you will see the Baptist churches joining forces with the First Stop/Last Chance liquor stores just over the county line to defeat a proposition) so you can now at least get a drink with your meal when dining out. (With a better variety of restaurants.) And if the mood hits you, you now have a variety of churches and denominations to pick from on Sunday morning as oppose to the Baptist, Catholic, and Methodist selection from not too long ago.)

Hope that catches you up on E'town. Stop and visit when you are in the area.
