Democratic state Sen. Daniel Mongiardo has lent his campaign for the U.S. Senate another $500,000, for a total of $706,000, the campaign said yesterday.
The loans are most of the $1.3million or so that the campaign has collected, but Mongiardo's advisers said his latest investment demonstrates his belief, and their belief, that he can defeat the better-funded Republican Sen. Jim Bunning.
"We'll have the money it takes to win," said Kim Geveden, Mongiardo's campaign manager. "Daniel's committed to that and his actions have demonstrated that."
Bunning's campaign did not return a call yesterday seeking comment.
