Unfortunately, I don't honestly believe that the rate of anti-depressant presciptions directly relates to the "happiness" of a community. More likely, low rates of anti-depressant prescriptions represents a lack of education and treatment of psychiatric issues. This study just doesn't seem very scientific to me.

in a selfish kinda way,we usually rank at the bottom on any study. Also,it "proofs" we Southerners are happier than them Yankees.
Seriously,I'm not sure if low rates of anti-depressant equals lack of education.Maybe our life style is a little better than THEIRS. I used to live up North and I wouldn't go back if you paid me.

adequate mental health care by much of the population.
however, i must also mention that louisiana is one of the more progressive states (hard to believe but true) in the movement to decrease the over-reliance of psychotropic treatments in the adult mr/dd population. this movement stems from the mandate by the DOJ to over-haul the treatment and support of mr/dd folks in our state developmental centers. historically, you see, louisiana had a lot of problems in the treatment of such persons. one of the issues has been the over-use of psychotropic treatments to decrease maladaptive behaviors and the like. problem is, the patients often end up seriously sedated and, over the long term, the results include the exacerbation of health problems and the loss of communication, social, and adaptive-living skills.
