FEMA closed St. Bernards shelter!?! |
|
Sister's friends MIL was just picked up from La with following tale:
(from yesterday) "her husband had just returned from picking up his mom in Louisiana. She lived in St Bernard's Parish and the ever efficient FEMA closed down the shelter she was in. "Why?" I asked. "They said they were done," she responded. Incredible!!!!! The gal said one of the things her husband wasn't prepared for was all the people who came up to his car, asking for help... He went down Tuesday and these folks are still in a state of desperation. Guess I'll donate some more $$$ to the Red Cross... Still feels like not enough. "

The money is not getting there! it would be better if you donate to one of the many churches or directly to http://louisianahelp.org/

They are consolidating shelters as more people are finding more permanent places like apartments, etc.(with the help of the Red Cross) People don't have to move to the consolidated shelters. Those are probably people that 'once again' chose not to leave when the shelters closed.
I know that here in Shreveport, the Centurytel Center, and as of today, the shelter at LSUS will be closed. The remaining people are being moved/have been moved to Hirsch Coliseum.
