Did Broussard Lie on Russert's Show??? |
|
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9368952snip...... "New details and interviews with the son whose mother died in the flood show that the tragedy unfolded from Saturday through Monday, Aug. 29 - not Monday through Friday, Sept. 2 as recounted by Broussard. The owners of the nursing home were indicted Tuesday for the deaths of more than 30 residents, which officials say occurred on Aug. 29."

I make a distinction between lying (knowing the information you're providing is false) and being mistaken (either not knowing the information is false, or just being confused).
I'll leave it up to those that don't make the distinction to say he's lying. The standard line is that he was overcome with grief and the events of the past few weeks.
However, it completely undercuts his point, which, nonetheless, remains valid. That odd little "F --> T is T" line from the standard truth table.

I think Broussard was overwhelmed and just recounted the story incorrectly in his despair. The nursing home incident is so sad.

How many similar stories did he know about? He probably merged two factual stories and made them one. Still applies. After all, didn't someone get rescued just this week?

St. Rita's was in St. Bernard. Broussard is president of Jefferson Parish.

4. That's because officials "believe" they died on the 29th |
|
It is convenient for officials to "believe" they died on the 29th since there is now a criminal case. It IS possible the mother survived until friday.
I think there needs to be a bit more fact checking before I'll believe it was all a big mistake.

According to the article............
"Rodrigue said he didn't see or hear Broussard's comments on Meet the Press. When told of the sequence of phone calls that Broussard described on Meet the Press, Rodrigue said "No, no, that's not true."
"I can't tell you what he said that day, why he was confused, I'm assuming he was under a tremendous amount of pressure," Rodrigue told MSNBC.
"I contacted the nursing home two days before the storm and again on the 28th of August," Rodrigue said. "At the same time I talked to the nursing home I also talked to the emergency manager for St. Bernard Parish," Rodrigue said, "to encourage that nursing home to evacuate like they were supposed to and they didn't until it was too late."
Broussard must have been confused "because I was calling, not my mother calling me, I was calling her," Rodrigue said. Further, Rodrigue says he never made any calls after Monday, the day he figures his mother died, based on conversations he's had with another person who had a family member perish inside St. Rita's. Officials believe that the residents of St. Rita's died on Monday, Aug. 29, not on Friday, Sept. 2, as Broussard had suggested."

Everyone was under tremendous pressure. He made a mistake. If that was a conscious effort to deceive, the man should be acting with the Old Vic.
Unfortunately, they'll use this one thing to try to discredit everything else. I plan to say, "So no one died on the busses to Houston?"

he stretched the truth the way you do when you are completely done in. I don't think anybody who went through that storm should be held completely accountable for anything they said within 72 hours after it, including the Mayor.

She still died, the story still holds. Republicans continuously attempt to cast doubt by blurring the details. It's a time tested legal trick; do anything possible to a create "reasonable doubt" and thus escape conviction.
Broussard misstated the timeline, Valerie Plame, not Dick Cheney "sent her husband to Niger." So what, their actions (or inaction) in both cases were criminal.

True she is still dead. But since she died on Monday that does make a difference as to whom is responsible.
I have said before that FEMA fucked up. But Nagin and Blanco did so as well. There would have been no need for FEMA rescue had Blanco and Nagin evacuated the city!!!!!!!!

Am curious why you are coming on the LA forum questioning everything that a freeper would question. This is not the first time you have done this with the disclaimer of wanting the truth. Your questions really sound like RW spin and attempted swiftboating, to me.

I was born here and live here now. I had 5 sets of relatives evacuate from New Orleans. Yes, they were fortunate enough to leave on their own resources but they all feel Blanco and Nagin were practically useless.

support the actions of our governor and the mayor. We KNOW who was at fault for the fiasco in New Orleans. For you to come in this forum and ask these leading questions and make insinuations leads to me to only one conclusion. I have also gone back and read all of your posts, and despite your disclaimers, I can only reach one conclusion about you.
If others want to play with you, fine, but I urge the others in this forum to read all of the posts of this poster and draw their own conclusions.

26. I think that the Governor and Mayor fucked up too, BUT... |
|
Their fuck-ups were far less dramatic and costly than Michael Brown's. With what resources were Blanco and Nagin able to use to save lives? The only thing that we have on the state level is the national guard and guess where that was... IRAQ!!!!
Is that Blanco or Nagin's fault? No, it's Bush's fault.

Since I was sitting safely in Fargo, ND while many of y'all were fleeing for your lives, I probably paid closer attention to the details of the first few days.
More peoople were rescued by the Wildlife and Fisheries folk, who were prepositioned with all their shallow draft boats from across the state, than the entire federal effort combined.
Anytime someone brings up the busses or the declarations, be sure to answer them with examples of what went right in Lousiana, and ask them what single thing went right with the federal response in the first week. Anything.

I have lived in NW LA(Bossier City) since I was about 3 years old. So that makes me a 35 year resident. Ever since I have been able to understand politics I have been ashamed of the levels of graft, corruption, and ineptnes in all facets of out state governmenet. And believe me, the evacuees I have talked to hold Nagin and Blanco responsible.
And since I do have a problem with Nagin and Blanco, why do you accuse me of being a freeper? Are they the only ones that can find fault in a Democrat? Are we not allowed to find faults in our own people? It is the person that fucks up, not their affiliation.

If you have proof that either Blanco or Nagin has accepted graft, or are corrupt, please post it now. I have been working in the Cajun Dome with evacuees every weekend, and have found none that blame Nagin or Blanco...but, they have harsh words for the Feds. So, your implications have no basis, except for the few evacuees you have talked to.

your claims of ineptness upon reports from evacuees. I am basing my opinion of non-ineptness upon reports from evacuees as well. Ineptness is a judgment call....your call is not my call, and I find your harping on "your call" very telling.
That is all I have to say on the subject...I still think what I think...kitties like to play in sandboxes.

it looks like some of the graft and corruption is starting to be shown. And I am sure this is the tip of the iceberg.
Perhaps as much as 1/3 of the NOPD may be ghost employees. Numbers might have been puffed for payroll skimming and federal subsidies. The police chief has resigned for unspecified reasons.

31. Re-enacting the CBS News Scandal |
|
Yes, those documents may not have been legitimate, but not for the reason stated. I worked in the printing industry, and I knew most of the discussion about the type was just flat wrong. And the secretary who viewed the documents said the contents were factual regardless of the reliability of these copies.
That last fact was lost in all the noise.
That is what they're trying to do here, make it about the chronology and not about the facts: Rodrigue confirms the conversation with this mother. There is no question she died.
So let's make it all about Broussard, a man on a mission to make the GOP's life miserable for their failures in SE Louisiana.
The poster here is not the only DUer who is carrying the right wing's water. I just had a long exchange with a poster with over 6,000 posts since 2001 over the damn buses again, and his arguments are a perfect recapitulation of the arguments from the host of my local Two Hour Hate on AM Radio.
I don't know if we're dealing with trolls or deep-seated racism or just a widespread perception of Louisiana as corrupt and inept, but it's ugly, and it has to be put to bed.

34. Some of the email response I've gotten to my blog |
|
from people like me in the pre-Katrina disaspora have scared me, and pissed me off.
Why NOLA will be better off with fewer black people.
That, and some mails I've seen from friends of friends, people I haven't spoken with casually in years.
I know two things: the issues with the bouncers on Bourbon Street were not an isolated incident. A certain level of racism has returned to people in NOLA I thought new better.
The more I think about what happened, the more I think it's openly about race and less about class. The folks worse affected were abandoned because they were not important because of race. St. Bernard was just an exception, collateral damage.
The same goes for Nagin's return to his past form as Mr. Reiss's house, um, I don't want to say that. Let's say, Mr. Riess' "boy".
