Reports of gunshots aimed at rescue helicopters in New Orleans on Sept. 1 now appear to have been little more than rumors.

NEW ORLEANS - Among the rumors that spread as quickly as floodwaters after Hurricane Katrina, reports that gunmen were taking potshots at rescue helicopters stood out for their senselessness.

But more than a month later, representatives from the Air Force, Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security and Louisiana Air National Guard say they have yet to confirm a single incident of gunfire at helicopters.

Likewise, members of several rescue crews who were told to halt operations say there is no evidence they were under fire.

6. Haven't heard anything more about 'sniper stopping hospital evacuation'

Has there been any debunking of that shit? The doctor in charge there said he never saw/heard anything when he went out and that he wasn't out there all the time, so he couldn't confirm/deny reports of 'sniper fire'. Few days later, sounded like he changed the story a pit. Somebody got to him?

And the word sniper is not one which would fit most urban dwellers, even those who might be inclined to shoot. A sniper is a specialist who gets lots of practice on mostly lnog rang targets. Not the typical shooting urban crinimals would excell at. IF there was a sniper my money is on it being a Blackwater sorta dude.
