Congressmen who waste our time. |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 05:46 PM by votefordan
Both Jindal and Vitter are rumored to be interested in running for governor in 2007.
This shows how committed they are to rebuilding Louisiana...
If they want to run, fine. That is their right to do so. If they do, we should focus on the fact that while Louisiana needs FIRST AND FOREMOST people who will be in Congress fighting for what Louisiana needs post-Katrina, they are campaigning for an elected office.
Jindal wants to run for Governor then fine. He should not run for reelection in 06 to allow someone who WILL be committed to the task at hand.
Vitter wants to run for Governor then fine. He should step aside and let a replacement be chosen who will commit him/herself to the task at hand.
We NEED to speak out about this. I think it is VERY irresponsible for them to focus on a governors race when their focus should be to do what we ELECTED them to do.

1. I heard a caller on WWL today ask Vitter... |
|
about this and how if congressmen want to run, they should step asside so someone else can dedicate their full time to the work at hand instead of campaigning. The question was very clear to me but...
Vitter just responded by saying somethign to the affect of
"well i don't know what the question is, but i think something we've seen since Katrina is how the regular people have become active in the political process and ...that's a good thing!"
totally ignoring the callers question
his response to another callers question about the tax cuts this week was pretty much avoided too
"i support the continuation of Bush's tax plan...b/c we can't have people payign exhorbinant taxes in times like these"....
what an ass!

2. why should they resign to run? |
|
John Kerry didn't resign from the senate when he ran for President. Joe Leiberman not only ran for Vice President, but also ran for re election to his Senate seat at the same time.
As far as wanting to run for governor, maybe they feel it is to the benefit of the state if they could be governor and help rebuild New Orleans and actually most of South Louisiana.
Both arguments posted in this forum makes little sense.

3. The difference is..... |
|
"John Kerry didn't resign from the senate when he ran for President. Joe Leiberman not only ran for Vice President, but also ran for re election to his Senate seat at the same time."
There is a big difference between Kerry and Leiberman running and Jindal and Vitter running. Leiberman and Kerry didnt have to worry about rebuilding from one of the biggest natural disasters in their states history. Both Jindal and Vitter did.
"As far as wanting to run for governor, maybe they feel it is to the benefit of the state if they could be governor and help rebuild New Orleans and actually most of South Louisiana."
So in the meanwhile, as they campaign, they will be ignoring their jobs in Congress to get another job here. The first couple years after Katrina is going to be the most crucial. We are going to need ACTIVE voices in Congress working for us.... not people who are wasting two seats as they push for their own political gain. It is disgusting.

Yeah, that was a pretty pathetic dodge by Senator Vitter.
