How's Melancon doing against Tauzin? |
|
I personally am EXTREMELY glad to see that the race wasn't between two Repukes, Tauzin and Romero. They would run ads accusing each other of being more liberal than the other when in reality they are both complete fascists. I'm told that this is usually a democratic district but the fact that Tauzin (the guy retireing) had so much seniority made it impossible for us to pick up. What's going on there?

1. It's been pretty quiet |
|
Tauzin is running radio commercials regularly. Haven't heard a single Melancon ad yet. Billy's got a few television commercials out. Haven't seen a single Melancon ad yet.I haven't gotten any mailers since last Tuesday from either candidate, but I'm sure Billy will be starting them soon. I saw Melancon last Wednesday at a St. Mary/Iberia Parish joint Chambers of Commerces event, and he was pretty upbeat. Billy was also invited to attend, but he chose not to show up. Boy, did things get really ugly here the week before the election. Melancon pretty much stayed out of the fray between Tauzin and Romero, so he's still pretty "clean". Tauzin went after Romero with a vengeance hitting him with some pretty nasty stuff. (It was kind of fun to watch!) But I think it cost Little Billy in this area. Hopefully Charlie can capitalize on the negative Tauzin feeling in this area, but unless he starts soon, I don't know.

2. Well here's the thing, I don't live in the third district... |
|
And I saw Melancon TV ads several times the week before November 2nd. So he must be running them, or at least he will be soon.

3. DCCC is recruting volunteers for Melancon. |
|
I haven't seen it mentioned on DU yet, so just in case nobody knows: The DCCC is trying to round up out-of-district volunteers for Lousiana's two runoff elections: http://www.democraticaction.org/roadtrip/I'm probably going to go, but I haven't decided if I'm going to volunteer in the 3rd or 7th district.

And welcome to the DU.
Melancon ads are pretty much tied up with Tauzin ads at the moment. Keep us informed about your plans and what's going on with whatever campaign you decide on.

Little Billy was on live radio here in New Iberia. The show's host took calls from listeners that would like to ask Little Billy a question. The first caller---BAM! Right off the bat starts screaming at him about what a do-nothing his daddy was, and why on earth would we vote for him so he can retire fat and happy like his daddy, while the people in our district got nothing! She went on about Bush's lies to get us into the Iraq war, and how Little Billy didn't finish the Coast Guard Academy because he had "other priorities"....just like Cheney, a worthless chickenhawk. IT WAS GREAT! About 7 people called in, and only 1 was a positive call in support of Little Billy. It was wonderful! In fact, I called my friend who is the host of the show, and I told him I thought we should do this every day. He could call the segment, "When New Iberia Attacks". It was priceless, and made my day. It was almost as good as the day Little Billy was being interviewed on the same show and said that he intended to live in the district full-time and commute to Washington. He said, in fact, that he wasn't even going to rent a home for himself in Washington, he would just live in his mother's basement!
