New Louisiana Dem Party Chair |
|
As a member of the State Central Committee I received a letter from Mike Skinner this morning announcing his resignation as Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party effective on the election of his successor. He has called a meeting for the purpose of that election on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. This meeting will take place in the House Chambers at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge. According to the enclosed agenda the Chair Election seems to be the only business. There is no information as to whom is being considered.* This would be a good opportunity for those of you who became very active in the Presidential election and were sicken by the results to see your State Party in action and to get to know your leaders so that we can all work together to guarantee that no stone is left unturned next time. Four years go by very quickly. Now is not the time to become uninformed and assume that others are "taking care of business." Louisiana has an open meetings law. Anyone can attend.
*Rumor has it that Shaw Group CEO Jim Bernhard is the chosen one - Handled Blanco's transision team and was involved in the Election of Kip Holden as the new Mayor of Baton Rouge.

1. Jim Bernhard,Shaw Group CEO! |
|
I'm not sure if I could trust him to have our/my interest at heart! Too much big business here, but I'm trying to be open minded. Mr Bernhard is pretty cosy with 'the other side'!
Shaw Group! Red flags going up in my head! Not sure why, have to google!
At this point I'm just too disappointed and disgusted with the Democratic Party trying to be more like the republicans than to be...well like the Democratic party.

2. How does one become a member of these committees |
|
A month ago, on the Louisiana Democratic Party webpage I found lists of:
Executive Comm. Member List - All DSCC Member List DSCC Member List PEC Member List
How does one become a member of one of these Committees?
As far as the election of the new Chair, Isn't this short notice for such an election? Especially with the holidays and everything. Why can we not find out who else is seaking that position??
I'd like to attend. Could you tell me more of what I could expect from such a meeting?

I've never been to one myself, and since I'm up here in Shreveport I probably won't make it to Baton Rouge on such short notice.

4. I was in S'port for the holidays |

It was so strange that there was more snow down here in new orleans than up there.
I've seen your similar post on the yahoo forum. How did you earn your seat on the committee? Is there any thing written about this anywhere? Bylaws or something?

5. When I posted the original |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 07:11 PM by JaneDoughnut
I had placed a notation in brackets < > that it was not myself on the committee, but the woman I received the email from, whose contact info I was not comfortable posting on the forum. I guess there is something in the forum code that just erased everything inside the brackets.
On Edit: And it was actually Lerry DeFratis, our tirelessly working Dem leader in Shreveport, who posted what you are referring to on Yahoo.
It is bee-yoo-tee-ful weather in Shreveport today. A chilly wind, but that's the worst of it.
