Democrats set to gain a seat or two in the Maine Senate, will attain majority in House |
|
This may not have made it onto local news yet, but Democrats will maintain the majority in the Senate and are poised to pick up a seat or two depending on late results and possible recounts. In the House, Democrats have had a plurality but should have a majority by several seats when the smoke clears in the morning.
Democrats have knocked off the highest-ranking Green Party candidate in the country, as well.
Locally, it was a hard night on the midcoast for Democrats, but statewide and nationwide it is a huge night. It is a big reversal from 2004, when we had a big night on the midcoast and lousy night nationwide. It tempers the celebration a bit, but it is a magnificent night for Democrats from sea to shining sea...

Herb Adams is an excellent legislator and will make you proud.
As more precincts report in, Democrats have upped the majority to 90-56-2 with three seats still unknown.
It's a frakkin' landslide!

3. Incomplete results show Democrats up to 87 seats, GOP at 55 |
|
There will probably be a few recounts, there are some districts that have not reported and the BDN doesn't list every House race. But of those listed, the Democrats have won 87 of the 143 seats with eight seats still unknown. A huge victory for the House Democrats, and many thanks to Howard Dean and the DNC for the 50-state strategy that provided the funding needed for paid staff to help manage tight races.
