Motorist are reminded that the full closure of Interstate 295 Southbound from Gardiner to Topsham will begin Monday at midnight.
All lanes along this 18-mile stretch will be closed. Traffic will be detoured onto the Maine Turnpike and Route 201. All lanes of I-295 northbound will remain open throughout the project. Traffic bound for Portland and other southern points is encouraged to take the turnpike. Traffic destined for the Freeport and Brunswick area should take Route 201.
The closure should end by Aug. 30 at the latest. According to information posted by the Department of Transportation, the alternate routes are clearly marked and "should take no more than 15 minutes longer than traveling on I-295."
