“I’m a convicted felon but want to vote in the Presidential election. Will you help me?” |
|
Could you answer that question in Maine? What color is your state in the link below? http://www.aclu.org/votingrights/exoffenders/statelegispolicy2007.html#text

MAINE Maine and Vermont are the only states which allow voting by persons with felony convictions who are still in prison. Voting rights opponents try annually to amend the state constitution to end the practice but are unsuccessful. Things were no different in 2007, when the state affiliate testified in opposition to LD 300 and in favor of existing policy, as did the State Department of Corrections, which has long defended the practice of felon voting as consistent with its mission to rehabilitate ex-offenders. After hearing testimony from the affiliate and the DOC, the legislature's Joint Standing Committee on Legal and Veterans Affairs voted unanimously not to pass the measure.

2. I'm glad you know that, but I wonder how many in your state--particularly the convicted felons--know |
|
that? A lot of misinformation out there. And, why wouldn't there be? Look which party benefits from misinformation?
My focus thus far has been on voter registration, and in particular the AA community since there is so much misinformation 'out there.'
Good for Maine!

4. The Dems and the GOP did an educational voter registration thing in Warren |
|
Earlier this year both parties...and I think the Greens...took part in a voter registration program at the Maine State Prison in Warren.
